A Discussion with Product Manager, Amy Baver

Amy and the Product Management Team take care of Kerafast’s portfolio of bioreagents.

What do you like about your job?

I like working with a small group of people. My last job was working for a small academic lab so this is environment is something I am use to. The perks about being part of a start –up like Kerafast is the exposure I experience to all aspects of the company. I come from a science background but now I find myself dabbling and having some interest in business, sales and marketing.

What are some of your main responsibilities?

My two main roles at Kerafast include monoclonal antibody production and product launch management. I split my time 50% in the lab and 50% working on new products. I find this balance rewarding, it enables me to get up from my desk, move around and go back into the science world.

If you weren’t working at Kerafast, what else do you see yourself doing?

Tough question, since my mind changes rapidly. I have always wanted to be a meteorologist but probably someone behind the scenes (didn’t want to be on TV). Also, my husband and I toy with the idea of opening up a NY style Deli here in Boston or bagel place called Baver’s Bagels. I also have dreams of opening a spin/cycle studio. Right now we are both utilizing our science degrees, but who knows what the future may hold.

Kerafast’s mission is to build a community of scientists in which we help to facilitate access to unique bioreagents. Outside of work, what are the causes whose mission you are passionate about?

I am very passionate about animals and try to help local animal organizations. I donated my last car to the MSPCA and we hope to rescue more animals in the future (we already have a dog at home now). I have volunteered at Boston Public Schools in an elementary science program and I also like to participate in mini road races close to home to help support my local neighborhood.
